Description: Nobody told the designers of the C-19 Undercutter that form had to follow function. Billed as an all-environment mining scout, the low-slung transport is a masterpiece of contemporary Newtech engineering: agile, particularly while traveling through a planet’s atmo, and with submersible capabilities that make it a rarity among spacegoing craft.
The ship features adjustable tailplanes, a fast throttle and fuel efficient propulsion system, pinpoint maneuvering thrusters, and bow-mounted heavy-duty moling bores that are designed to penetrate rock and extract core samples or place explosives. Naturally, those whose intentions are less than honourable have found other uses for those mining bores.
The vessel’s impressive performance specs are offset by sacrifices in terms of cargo capacity and passenger space. The Undercutter is at the low end of the starship classification and is not intended for long journeys. It has a single deck and cockpit configuration and little space for cargo – exterior pods can be mounted on hardpoints slung beneath its main horizontal stabilizers, but that’s about it. Many Undercutter owners have scaled back the onboard cargo space in favour of extra fuel capacity.
