Honour Among Thieves
The Santo Strip
“There was a jeweled city on the horizon, spires rising in the night, but the jewels were diadems of electric and the spires were the neon of signs ten stories high.” – Norman Mailer
The Santo Strip has one of the highest concentrations of hotels, casinos, nightclubs, and immoral pursuits in the ‘Verse. All the usual suspects are here: bodyrub parlours, brothels, cockfight dens, faro tables, fair fights, fixed fights, karaoke bars, pachinko payouts, payday loans, pawn shops, strip clubs, Tall Card, and of course wedding chapels for those gamblers who need access to their wife’s dowry on the bounce.
Elevated monorails criss-cross the sky beneath towering holographic adverts hawking all manner of distractions. High rollers are shuttled from casino to casino in crystalline aircraft piloted by Registered Companions. Hotels, convention centres, and casinos crowd the skyline as restaurants, dance clubs, and knocking shops vie for the last credit in the bottom of a tourist’s pocket.
It’s shiny. If the Great City of Sihnon is an ocean of light, then Santo City is a bioluminescent reef in that ocean’s darkest depths. And like the bottom of the sea, the pressure is lethal.
